Hi! I really was NOT planning on decorating for Christmas this year. I get super depressed around this time, because I always envision our Christmas’s including the pitter patter of little feet. Once again, this Christmas will be the same as the last 7. Our homestudy was cancelled last week, because something came up with the social worker. She is supposed to call and set up a time this week. Again, I’m not holding my breath, because we’ve had to reschedule three times now. Even if she came this week, the state requires you to have two homestudies and then there are mounds of paperwork. I don’t see a way there will be little ones running around this Christmas.
So, the Christmas bug bit me or an elf or something. We decided to get a tree. Even if it is just for us…we deserve it! This will actually be our 3rd Christmas in our home. The first one was the worst/best ever! We didn’t live here yet, but we were fixing it up to move in the next week! We were sanding floors all night and all day. No Christmas movies, no tree, no presents (the house was our present)…but we did get SNOW! On December 25th, in ALABAMA! How cool is that? So, that made it probably the best Christmas ever. It was a fresh start, a new life, a new home, a new year!
On to my tutorial. This year I was very torn about what to do as far as a tree goes. I have always had a fresh Fraser Fir. No matter if I lived with my parents or during my married life, it was ALWAYS a fresh tree. The same goes for my hubby. BUT I started thinking about it for the first time in my life. I’m no tree-loving hippie, but it really seemed so wasteful to spend $40 on a tree that you have to throw away. Then we started pricing artificial trees and they are uber expensive. I thought I would just get one after Christmas when it gets marked down, but that presents a problem of still not having a tree THIS year! We went by Lowes just to look, and they just happened to have their Fraser Fir’s on sale! So we downsized to a 5-6 foot tree and we got a small Colorado Blue Spruce to go on the table top, just because it was cute and hopefully we can use it year after year!
The pom-pom garland is for the small table top tree, but I plan on making more to hang up around the house. It’s so cute and easy to make. Here’s how…
First: wrap your yarn around and around your two fingers, you can wrap around three fingers for bigger pom-poms. I probably wrapped mine 20 or 30 times. I didn’t really count. Just keep going until it’s full.
Second: take the yarn off your fingers and cut an extra piece of yarn to tie the middle:
Third: cut all the little loops:
Repeat until you get as many pom-poms as you want:
Fuzzy yarn makes the best pom-poms.
Next you will need some string, yarn, etc. I used twine:
You want to measure how much twine you need. I wrapped mine around my tree loosely to see how much I needed to cut.
Next you need to thread your twine in a large eyed needle and insert into the middle of the pom-pom. Repeat until you get all of them strung up. Tie knots in both ends.

That is totally dust on my makeshift buffet! Oh well, I’ll just pretend it’s fake snow!
I love my little tree. I hope he lives in his little pot year after year. I’d love for him to stick around. I sure hope I don’t kill him before Christmas next year! He was so fun to decorate after all!
